4/27/24-Blast from the past(PHOTO) (PHOTO). Just got these new photos of a piece that was shipped to Oceanside, California back in February of 2017. It was not this pretty to start with. Lots of elbow grease went into this one. Finding, cleaning, sanding, then sandblasting. Multiple bodies participated in getting it to where it is today, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

4/16/24-The genius of Mother-Nature(PHOTO) (PHOTO) (PHOTO). Plenty of homeowners have "that space" that the builder left that you scratch your head on what to put there. Samantha & Melody in Vero Beach Florida knew what to put there(PHOTO).

3/2/24-Just did a major *Price Reduction* for 40% of the pieces of driftwood falling under the LONG/FLAT WOOD section. These are pieces that can be mounted to the wall(PHOTO). Pieces that can be used for light fixtures(PHOTO). And, or pieces that can be used on a tabletop(PHOTO).

12/8/23- Amazon.com has gotten into the driftwood business. None of us in the business are happy about this, but this is America and I am a capitalist, so they have the right to do so. That being said, I am not a very big fan as to the not so ethical way that Amazon sells driftwood. FYI: Amazon does not sell driftwood harvested from the waters of The Outer Banks of North Carolina. At Outer Banks Driftwood, we do. When you order a piece of driftwood from us, you get the piece in the photo(OBX DRIFTWOOD-PHOTO) that you ordered. You do not get a different piece that is supposedly similar as mentioned in the small print(AMAZON-PHOTO) (AMAZON-PHOTO), which is the case with Amazon. The listed piece of driftwood that you order from a photo on our site is exactly what you will get if you order from us. Driftwood is not lumber. Each piece is unique and different from every other piece of driftwood on planet earth. I wonder out loud how many folks there are that ordered a piece of driftwood from Amazon and ended up not getting what they thought they were ordering because they didn’t read the small print(AMAZON-PHOTO)? Personally, it smells like dirty pool to me. If I operated my business like Amazon, I could get hundreds of orders for the above 1st piece of driftwood. But, morally and ethically I could not do that. We will never do that as I would not want to deal with the backlash of disappointed customers due to misleading advertising. We value our reputation here at OBX Driftwood and will continue to run an honest business. The recent google presence of Amazon with driftwood has had a snuffing out effect to the Google presence of the small businesses that have been in the driftwood business for years. We really appreciate the small business support from all that have ordered from us in the past and those that will in the future. This is a David vs. Goliath battle. 5/1/23-These is two Medium pieces(PHOTO) ended up with Pelicans on them in Frankford, North Carolina. The fish are not the only creatures that like driftwood. The plants do too(PHOTO). This one ended up in Gibsonville, North Carolina. Getting ready to dump a bunch of Small Planter Pieces onto the site.

1/9/23-Been wondering why this knockout piece of Heart Pine-2022dwlrg-0210(PHOTO) (PHOTO) is still sitting in the driveway. Just looked and the photos of this piece were taken last January. Somehow we forgot to dump it onto the site. Good luck for whoever lucks out and get it. Had it been on the site, it would have been gone a long time ago. The piece sites upright on its own. Super-solid wood(26&1/4 lbs.) with all kinds of character. It would be great as an Aquarium/Terrarium Piece, as a Decorative Indoor or Outdoor Piece. We do not come across too many pieces like this one.

1/8/23-A new transmission for our truck, all kinds of work to our shipping van, and a bionic knee for Coco(PHOTO)(one of our fearless lot dogs) has resulted in nearly $10,000 of unexpected expenses. 9/18/22-Missouri City, Texas. That's where 2022mantel103(PHOTO) ended up standing proud. This one was a Father/Son project. Henry had some elbow grease with getting this one as perfect as we could get it.

3/16/22-Most pieces do not even make it to the site these days as you people keep us too busy to get them onto the site. 2022dwlng-0562(PHOTO) which looks like the state of Virginia & 2022dwlng-0570(PHOTO) are two knockout pieces that fall into that category. Hard to make these pieces look any better than they were when they left here for Ohio last week. They went to the right man and he did the one thing that could make them look better(PHOTO) (PHOTO).

2/16/20-Russell Berry passed away last month. When all is said and done, Russell will go down as the greatest "driftwooder" ever. Russell was the Muhammad Ali of driftwood. Over his lifetime he pulled enough pretty pieces of driftwood to fill the New Orleans Superdome. No one could touch the quality that Russell was able to consistently produce. He pioneered the driftwood business in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Russell Berry will always be the foundation of what is happening with the business of driftwood. There is Russell Berry pulled driftwood in the Piranha Exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo, on the Cruise Ship Grand Princess, at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida. There is at least one piece of Russell Berry driftwood in all 50 states in the country. And, he did this up to the end of his 81 years. I am so lucky to have been able to know this man. He was a full on character. A one-of-a-kind. I will cherish the memories of bullshitting with him at the picnic table at his "camp," as he called it. And, negotiating with him over a load of driftwood at his office, which was the parking lot at the Manteo McDonalds, while he at his daily Fillet of Fish sandwich. Getting the phone call that I needed to hurry up and come and see him as he had a "Trophy" for me to look at. Lot's of "Trophy's" over the years. Priceless memories. R.I.P. 1/25/18-Folks, we have always offered you a lower shipping price based on payment by check or money order. This lower shipping rates excludes the credit card processing fees that come along with credit card purchases. We do this as a favor the help you save a little money. I like to save money too. Don't think for a minute that credit card processing fees are not figured into pricing with any of your internet purchases. You are paying for them. Most business just don't let you know that. But, with that being said, we have had a reoccurring driftwood hostage crisis here as of late. If you tell us that you prefer to save a little $$$ and you are mailing a check, we take you for your word, set the piece of driftwood aside, and we do not sell it. We ship every day here. Shipping is a huge part of this business. We know how long it takes for a check to get here from the day you said you were "sending it," from any state in the country. When you say the check is in the mail from X state, we know that it will be here in X days from that state. New rule. When a check does not show up when it is supposed to, you will get an e-mail and a phone call if we have your number. If you get this e-mail/phone call and you have not mailed the check you will have the option to make the purchase with a credit card that day. If we are unable to make contact with you and you do not get back to us that day, your piece will be sold to the person that wanted to purchase your piece while it was being held hostage. We have had multiple people wanting pieces that have been held hostage as of late. We are unbelievably busy here. That does not allow for time be a check/money order bounty hunter. I hope you understand.

Here at Outer Banks Driftwood, we do carry "Coastal Driftwood" that is pulled from an inlet(Oregon Inlet) and a coastal region(Outer Banks of N.C.) located on the East Coast. We do not carry and sell wood promoted as "Coastal Driftwood," that came from an inland river running through a major metropolitan city that is not located on the coast. And, no, we do not blow smoke at you pretending that we have some "Fancy Nancy" 5 step process of cleaning, pressure washing, drying, air blowing, and bristle brushing our driftwood that supposedly sets us above all of our competitors. We do own and occasionally use a pressure washer, when needed, to clean driftwood. We do this when requested or when a piece is covered in marsh mud. Pressure washing can and will take away the gray/white weathered look of driftwood that a lot of people like. But, that being said, pressure washing can bring back the burnt orange look to a weathered piece of Red Cedar that others like. Whatever floats your boat. Just let us know. And, if not done properly, pressure washing driftwood can and will splinter the wood. A lot of times a good-old-fashioned garden hose with a jet nozzle is the better alternative. No, we do not use "a specialty"soap nor do we ever plan on using a "specialty soap," as some of these miracle products can and will discolor driftwood. For drying, we normally we use the giant orange ball of fire in the sky to naturally dry our wood, but at times we have to go the extra mile. Our "mechanical" drying technique is...., yes the conventional oven that we use to quickly dry wet wood(that will fit in it) for rush orders. We do not have an special air compressor to blow debris out of the nooks, holes, and groves. But, we do have an electric leaf blower and we use it all the time on wood. It will blow anything out of a piece of driftwood that is not permanently attached to it. PS: It is also a good tool to use to blow water out of your cell phone when you accidentally leave it in your Blue Jeans and hear it clanging around in the washing machine(this technique worked last week). Cell phone still works! Bristle brushing? I am not even going there... Anyway, also, there is no such thing as free shipping. When was the last time the Post Office, U.P.S., Fed-Ex, or a Trucking company let you ship something for free? We do not hike up the prices of our wood to sucker you into an impulsive free shipping purchase. All that being said, I am not implying that there is no pretty driftwood that comes from an inland river that runs through a major metropolitan city, as I know there is. I used to fish the waters of The Potomac River years ago and remember seeing a lot of pretty driftwood there. But, our wood does come from the Coastal waters of the Outer Banks of North Carolina as advertised. Folks, our goal is not to bamboozle you with gimmicks into supporting a side hustle. This is a real business, it is not a hobby. The goal here is to provide people with some of the best driftwood on the planet at an affordable price that is set to allow us to stay in business.
